Biography
Father Roderick headed the chapel in Goldenfields where Elric Lightborn was raised. He served as a surrogate father figure to Elric and maintained the chapel and gardens in worship of Lathander, the Morninglord.
When Lazarus’s forces razed Goldenfields, Father Roderick’s fate became uncertain. He gave Elric his prayer beads before Elric departed the burning city with Ikarin.
Appearance & Personality
Father Roderick is the physical embodiment of a warm hearth—stout, red-cheeked, and radiating the comfortable heat of a life well-lived. He moves with the heavy, deliberate bustle of a man who appreciates the ground beneath his feet, his robes often smelling faintly of pipe tobacco and incense. His face is a map of jovial lines, usually crinkled in a smile that reaches his eyes, which sparkle with the simple, unburdened faith of a true believer. He is rarely seen without a symbol of Lathander, the Morninglord, but he carries his piety lightly, preferring a bear hug to a benediction. He looks less like a high priest and more like a grandfather who has just finished baking bread, his very presence promising safety and a full belly.
A Lathanderite through and through, Roderick is an optimist who believes in new beginnings as fervently as he believes in breakfast. He serves as Elric’s anchor to humanity, a father figure who offers unconditional love and a sanctuary where the weight of destiny can be left at the door. He is jovial and delights in the small pleasures of existence—good food, fine tobacco, and the laughter of friends—treating these as acts of worship in themselves. However, his cheerfulness is not naivety; it is a conscious choice to nurture light in a dark world. He provides a moral compass that points towards kindness, reminding those around him that even in the face of ancient gods and cosmic threats, the most important thing is often just being a good neighbor.
