Biography

Ilara is a Progenitor and handmaiden to Asmalon, the Witch of the Wood. She has served as Elric Lightborn’s guardian and teacher for five years, rescuing him as a child from captors who imprisoned him in a metal cage where he was being farmed for his progenitor bones.

After the rescue, Ilara and Elric traveled together as drifters, hiding his identity while she trained him in magic and combat. She taught him the Cantrip Mastery feat—the ability to shape and alter fundamental magics in unconventional ways, including Temporal Mending for regeneration.

Upon returning Elric to Goldenfields days before his Ascension, Ilara departed for Tribor on unspecified business, leaving him to face his coming-of-age alone.

Appearance & Personality

To witness Ilara is to stand before the terrifying stillness of an ancient forest moments before a storm breaks. She possesses the ageless, porcelain perfection common to Progenitors, yet her presence is devoid of the distant apathy often associated with her kin; she is a creature of focused, lethal intent. Her eyes are pools of shifting starlight that can soften with profound affection or harden into the cold inevitability of an executioner. She moves with a fluid, predatory grace, her arrival often heralded by the faint, crisp scent of ozone and crushed pine needles. Though she often cloaks her divinity in the dust of the road, the air around her thrums with a silent power, and her touch—though gentle with her charge—carries the weight of a hand that has shaped history for twenty-eight thousand years.

Psychologically, Ilara is a study in restrained devastation. She is fiercely protective, a trait forged in the blood of Elric’s rescue from the bone-harvesters, and she treats her immortality not as a gift but as a long, solitary watch. Beneath the mantle of the stoic warrior and demanding mentor, there exists a fragile vulnerability; she is a being who knows she is holding something she cannot keep. She loves Elric with a depth that defies the detached nature of her species—a secret shouted in her silence and her possessive shielding of him. She is a strict teacher who believes true power lies in the perfect application of basics, yet she harbors a deep, melancholy kindness for the boy she raised, constantly torn between her duty to the Progenitor laws and the maternal fury of a guardian.
