Biography

Asmalon, known as the “Witch of the Wood,” is a Progenitor of immense power who has watched over Elric Lightborn since his infancy. As his godmother, she provided him with sanctuary and guidance, assigning her handmaiden Ilara to train him. Her grove near Goldenfields was a place of ancient magic, where the line between the forest and the divine blurred.

Her long vigil was violently interrupted when Lazarus’s forces razed Goldenfields. Targeted specifically for her power and her connection to the “Ark of Creation,” Asmalon was overwhelmed and kidnapped during the assault. Now held captive by Lazarus in an unknown location, her fate serves as the primary catalyst for Elric’s new crusade.

Appearance & Personality

Asmalon, the Witch of the Wood, does not merely inhabit a space; she rearranges the atmosphere to suit her regal indifference to time. Encounters with her are often described in terms of sensory overload—the heavy, pregnant silence of an old-growth forest and the electric taste of magic on the tongue. When she manifests, she appears as a figure of maternal yet terrifying grandeur, her form seeming to weave into the verdant tapestry of her grove. She radiates an aura of ancient, nurturing power, like the sun that feeds the harvest but can also scorch the earth. Her presence is commanding, demanding the reverence due a godmother who has watched the rise and fall of civilizations from the shade of her treeline.

Her personality is marked by a piercing, maternal omniscience that unnerves the unprepared. Asmalon is neither benevolent nor malevolent in the mortal sense; she is a force of nature—generous to those under her wing, yet possessing the unpredictable judgment of the wilderness. She views the world with a gaze that is both critical and deeply affectionate, particularly regarding her godson Elric and her handmaiden Ilara. She is a master of the long game, a strategic architect of legacy who hoards secrets as jealous dragons hoard gold. While she offers sanctuary and guidance, her benevolence is always tempered by a steely resolve; she is a Progenitor who intervenes not out of charity, but to fortify the destiny she has carefully cultivated.

Motivations & Secrets

Goals: Shepherd Elric Lightborn through his Ascension; protect the Progenitor legacy.

Secrets: Why Elric is so important to her remains unclear. Her investment appears prophetic rather than merely familial.

Current Status: Offered to stand as Elric’s patron for his Ascension ceremony.

Abilities & Powers

Asmalon commands power that predates mortal magic. She holds dominion over the natural world and can create Angel’s Tear—crystallized tears described as “minor miracles” capable of healing and restoration. The full extent of her abilities is unrevealed.
