Narrative Summary

Elric infiltrates a secret militant research facility to retrieve the Shard of Ion. Disguised as a soldier, he locates the R&D department where he meets Dr. Patricia Scott. He charms her and learns about her projects: the Spellcaster’s Aegis armor, a Celerity Rig, and a mysterious Captive Star Amulet. When the facility comes under attack by Emotivores, Elric returns to R&D to find Dr. Scott under siege. He attempts to save her, but a powerful Shadow Dancer Emotovore mortally wounds her.

In her final moments, Dr. Patricia Scott entrusts Elric with her life’s work — the Captive Star Amulet — fearing the enemy would use its unlimited power for destruction. She sacrifices herself to cover his escape, using the facility’s defenses to hold back the swarm. Elric escapes through a portal just as the facility detonates, returning to Undermountain with his uncle Ikarin.

Back in safety, Ikarin reveals the true nature of the amulet: it contains a compressed pulsar. Elric decides to use the amulet to power the Undermountain facility, stabilizing its defenses. Impressed by Elric’s wisdom, Ikarin teaches him Progenitor Glyph Magic, granting him administrative access to the facility’s systems. Elric is then tasked with investigating Waterdeep, which Ikarin reveals is an ancient Progenitor capital, to identify weaknesses in the city’s magical seals.
